Let us not look “for the living among the dead”

Dear friends,

It is obvious that after Jesus was crucified, his closest friends didn’t expect him to rise from the dead. They had their own image of Jesus, they were convinced that he was invincible and they believed in him as the Son of the Living God. They were looking forward to see how many other interesting experiences they would have with Jesus and suddenly it was the end… By the empty grave they could think that someone had stolen the body… And the angels told the women, who came early to Jesus’ grave, something unheard of, something they hadn’t even imagined could happen: “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, he has risen!

Christmas 2013

Dear friends,

In comparison to today's trends, the birth of the Lord Jesus happened in very humble circumstances. Mary and Joseph had to respect the law of the land and despite her pregnancy had to travel around 160km on foot, or maybe with the help of a donkey. Jesus, the Heavenly Father's Son and his family didn't have any personal guard, or a palace with a good bed covered in silk. He gave Him into the hands of humble and faithful people, who believed God's word, his promises. He gave Him into the hands of people who didn't stop looking after their child, during the flight to Egypt or after they returned to Nazareth.

Through these people God sent us his Son, full of his unconditional love, his strong character, wisdom, honest dialogue and interest in the people around him.

I pray that all of you, during this Christmas, will rest and will draw encouragement for your faith, hope and love, through looking at Jesus, and that you will have joy and courage to face all the challenges that the new year brings.

English Discovery Camp 2013

An Update from Presov

“God is very very very very good :-) I went for a walk around Torysa today and I was thinking of what I´ve seen Him doing here and it really is incredible!!!”

This is what one of the student leaders in Prešov said in an email this week. We have seen God answer prayers in ways that we wouldn’t have imagined this year. We are so grateful to him for all he has done.

Winter Training Weekend 2013

Vazec Winter Camp

Over the first weekend in February, we met together with leaders of VBH groups throughout Slovakia; in order to encourage one another and prepare ourselves for the term ahead. In our morning devotional times, we worshipped together and looked at the story of Peter as we thought about leadership.

Cooking Workshop

Hello everyone! We are a group of students from university bible group in Nitra and we want to let you know something about our cooking workshops. We meet together every other Tuesday to learn how to cook some great food (our dormitory kitchens have some limitations so we must be creative with our ideas). The main reason why we do this is to involve other students from the dormitory and spend some quality time together. We get to know them and they get to see that young Christians are also "normal people". So we started with a sandwich workshop which was really successful, and to which 7 new students came. For the second workshop we cooked "sweets" and had 7 new people come again in addition to 4 people from last workshop.

Christmas and New Year wishes

Dear friends,

Over Christmas time, we are often surrounded by haste, sly commercialism filled with shallowness, which obscures the depth of Jesus´s celebration. Lord Jesus inspires us to become free from commonness and shallowness. Jesus personalizes strong character, sense of creativity, practical love and willingness to act and live holier than the law requires. He brings about grace and hope for beautiful and everlasting future in His gospel.

May all of you have a lot of quality rest, inspiration and encouragement in faith, hope and practical love from Jesus alone. Let us seek inspiration not to cease to dream, create and fight for deep and useful things for people around.

Dangerous Hope

What does hope mean to you? Where can we find hope? Hope for me, for my family, my community, my university and country. What does hope have to do with evangelism? This conference will help students and graduates to live a life of hope, love and faith, a life which impacts the lives of the people around them.

Hope brings change, and change can be dangerous…

Freedom Camp

In July we will be joined by a team of native English speakers who will come and help us run a Summer English Camp. The aim of the camp is to give students the opportunity to practice their English, make new friends and hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
