Christmas 2013

Dear friends,

In comparison to today's trends, the birth of the Lord Jesus happened in very humble circumstances. Mary and Joseph had to respect the law of the land and despite her pregnancy had to travel around 160km on foot, or maybe with the help of a donkey. Jesus, the Heavenly Father's Son and his family didn't have any personal guard, or a palace with a good bed covered in silk. He gave Him into the hands of humble and faithful people, who believed God's word, his promises. He gave Him into the hands of people who didn't stop looking after their child, during the flight to Egypt or after they returned to Nazareth.

Through these people God sent us his Son, full of his unconditional love, his strong character, wisdom, honest dialogue and interest in the people around him.

I pray that all of you, during this Christmas, will rest and will draw encouragement for your faith, hope and love, through looking at Jesus, and that you will have joy and courage to face all the challenges that the new year brings.

I write this also on behalf of my colleagues and the members of the VBH board.

"The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him."
